Debbie Shotwell is the Chief People Officer at Stack Overflow, where she leads the company’s people strategy.

She works to accelerate business results through leadership, attracting and retaining the best talent, empowering Stackers to reach their full potential, and creating a compelling employee experience that emphasizes collaboration and diversity, inclusion, and belonging — all designed to drive exponential business value.

Debbie has 20 years of experience delivering business transformation and creating innovative cultures aligned with the rapidly changing needs of the workforce. Prior to joining Stack Overflow, Debbie led the People function at Saba Software, leading it through two global acquisitions where the overall company strategy, mission, vision and values were redesigned to enable employees to deliver on business results. Her team was on the front lines of driving Saba’s award-winning culture; Saba Software was recognized as a Best and Brightest Company to Work For and a Top Place to Work in the Bay Area. Prior to Saba Software Debbie held leadership positions at BigCommerce, Good Technology, Pacific Pulmonary Services, Taleo, and PeopleSoft. Debbie was on the Board of Pleasanton Partners in Education and is currently on the advisory board of Best and Brightest Companies to Work For, WorkTribe Dynamics, and Agile Literacy.

Debbie earned her Bachelor of Science degree at California State University, Sacramento with an emphasis in human resources and a communications minor. She is a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP). She’s married and has three children.
